About this Business of Software Masterclass

Customer research is a key requirement for anyone needing to shape their product development strategy. Interviewing is undeniably one of the most valuable and commonly used user research tools but doing great interviews does not always mean impactful outcomes on product.

It’s too important to be left to chance, particularly in an environment where customer needs are changing fast.

In this interactive Business of Software Masterclass, Steve Portigal, one of the world’s leading user researchers, shows you how your user research should be used to guide your product development process. This session builds on his other workshop, User research: Uncovering compelling insights through interviews – although it’s not necessary to attend both.

Pre-Work

Please complete the following 2 tasks before the first session of the Masterclass.

1 – Do a customer interview.

Imagine you are at a startup. Your business problem: What new products and services could we offer to help people with their meals at home? Your research question: What are people’s meal activities?

Interview one person, either remote or in-person (depends on your living situation) for at least 45 minutes.

You can pick up some best practices for interviews by watching this video, especially from 34:00 onward.

2 – Please fill out this short introduction form.
