Hard to believe that Wendi Labbie has kids at college. She had children very young. A proud moment for us all to see her son pitch a ‘no hitter’ when she was over here a couple of weeks ago for our IoT Forum.
Here is a short video of the final pitches….
Here is an excerpt from the game report. I found it about as intelligible as baseball fans might find a cricket match report…
Nice one Mitch. You did your Mom Proud.
“Labbie made history Saturday by firing the first no-hitter in modern program history. The right-hander went the distance in a seven-inning format in Game 1 of a doubleheader, facing two batters over the minimum in a 12-0 victory over DeSales University. Labbie said he became cognizant of the no-hitter as he took the mound in the fifth inning, but went unfazed by the potential gem until the seventh.“I didn’t really get nervous until literally the last out of the game,” Labbie said. “The fans started standing up and my team mates were going crazy … so I just said to myself I have to lock in right here because this could be my career game.”In the final inning, Labbie faced the heart of the DeSales batting order. He started the frame by striking out Carlos Urena then got cleanup hitter Jay Maletz to fly out to left. Facing junior Alec Hardy with two outs, Labbie ran the count to 2-0 before peeling a cutter across the plate for a strike. Then on a 2-1 count, Hardy hit a pop-up into foul ground on the first base side.” San Mateo Daily Journal.
