Mistakes often seem catastrophic when you are in the moment, but they don’t have to be. Bill will share some of the biggest mistakes he made in co-founding and building his company, Global Data Consortium, over 10 years.
GDC delivers electronic identity verification for customer transactions that meet global Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance standards, and Counter Terrorist Finance (CTF) obligations. Bill will share his assumptions when making key decisions and how he altered the course of the business as they came to realise that things had to change.
The story, despite the mistakes, has a happy ending.
In 2022 Bill sold the company to London Stock Exchange Group, was able to remove himself from the day-to-day operations of the business shortly afterwards to pursue a new and more ambitious goal – supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Raleigh, North Carolina to help it become the most supportive environment for tech entrepreneurs in the US.
Co-Founder & President Global Data Consortium

Bill is an active angel investor. Past exits include Union Metrics (sold to Trendkite/Cision); Magnus Health (private equity acquisition) and Loqate (acquired by GB Group UK). As part of his volunteer work with the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) Bill has mentored over 80 companies through early, mid-stage growth and exit challenges.
